White House Young America Series Comes to NCCU
The White House Young America Series, a group of regional forums designed to connect Obama Administration officials with young adult citizens, will present a conference at North Carolina Central University on Monday, April 30.
The conference, one of dozens being held around the nation this spring, will provide young leaders from community, civic, nonprofit and business groups with opportunities to discuss issues critical to young Americans with each other and with administration officials. The series is presented in conjunction with the Millennium Momentum Foundation and the U.S. Department of education. A key goal is to link young leaders with the local and national resources and networks they need to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
The conference will take place in NCCU's Alfonso Elder Student Union from 2 to 6 p.m. The agenda includes:

  • Introductory remarks from a White House representative.
  • A forum in which young community leaders from Durham and the Triangle will discuss ways in which it is possible to help build a better world.
  • An "open space" period in which participants will have opportunities to raise specific issues that they believe are important. Issues that are raised will set the agenda for small-group discussions.
The conference is intended primarily for students from NCCU and other colleges in the region. Because of space limitations at the Student Union, it is not open to the general public. News media are welcome.
