Bluefield State College News November 1, 2013 Sabika Bingo" Program November 15 to Raise Scholarship Funds for Bluefield State College Students It's a "jewel" of an idea. A "Sabika Bingo" night, November 15 at Bluefield State College, will raise scholarship funds for BSC students. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the Hebert Gallery/Harris-Jefferson Student Center on the College's campus, with doors opening at 5 p.m. Attendees will compete for more than $2,000 worth of the very popular Sabika Jewelry throughout the evening's bingo contests, door prizes and raffles. Tickets ($20 for 20 games/2nd set for $10). Funds raised will be deposited in a recently established scholarship program that helps students who need special financial assistance to complete their final year of college and graduate. The "Krotseng Challenge" program provides a dollar-for-dollar match to funds raised to assist students who are nearing the completion of their degree requirements while facing financial and life challenges that threaten to interrupt or derail their academic pursuits. "Funds for student scholarships and ultimately student success have a large impact upon our students, especially in these economic times," noted Shelia Johnson, BSC's Vice President of Financial & Administrative Affairs. "The campus community has already invested time and effort to set the stage for a successful bingo program, and with the various prizes we have for this event, it will be another great day for BSC." Dr. Marsha V. Krotseng, BSC President, and her husband, Mr. Lee Krotseng, have donated $10,000 for initiatives that emphasize increasing students' degree completion, including the Big Blue Scholars Program, advising awards, and seed funds toward the "Go for Graduation" endowed scholarship, explained Betty Carroll, BSC's Director of Institutional Advancement and Planning. "Dr. and Mr. Krotseng are also challenging BSC alumni, faculty, staff, and local community to match their $10,000 gift by the College's May 17, 2014 commencement. If that amount is matched, Dr. and Mr. Krotseng will make another $10,000 matching gift. SANDRA M.
