Chevron donation expands Engineering academics, programs

The Chevron Corporation's vision includes a focus on partnerships, and its ongoing philanthropic support of Tuskegee University through a recent donation of $225,000 underscores that corporate commitment.

The company's contribution will support a variety of academic, scholarship and co-curricular programs in Tuskegee's College of Engineering. About 25 percent of Chevron's gift will support technological resources for use in classroom instruction and research, such as a 3-D printer and high-end computers. Another half creates 21 annual academic scholarships for students studying in mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering programs. Chevron's gift also funds scholarships for high school students participating in the college's eight-week FASTREC summer program that offers intensive, pre-college study in mathematics, engineering and study skills.

"Chevron's continued support is vital to the College of Engineering's academic offerings, which includes 10 degree programs," said Dr. Heshmat Aglan, the college's dean. "High-quality academic programs and ample scholarship support are a must if we are to recruit and retain students who will later serve as our ambassadors in the professional workforce."

The remainder of Chevron's gift will support many of the college's professional and honorary societies, including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Engineering Student Leadership Council, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, and Society of Women Engineers.

Chevron Corporation, based in San Ramon, California, is one of the world's leading integrated energy companies. Chevron explores for, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas; refines, markets and distributes transportation fuels and lubricants; manufactures and sells petrochemicals and additives; generates power; and develops and deploys technologies that enhance business value in every aspect of the company's operations.
