Greetings Members,

I trust you're well. Fifty-nine colleagues representing forty-seven institutions convened at the Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library (GA) for the HBCU Library Alliance 7th Membership Meeting to declare their "Relevance in Turbulent Times." Members shared experiences through conference presentations and poster sessions to strengthen and support our community. Veronica Cohen, Associate Vice President for Major and Planned Gifts at Claflin University (SC) and HBCU Library Alliance Advancement Advisor, delivered the keynote address. Thanks to all who made the Membership Meeting a successful and memorable event.

Membership Meeting - Digital Initiative Project Update

Dr. Janice Franklin and Cedric Davis, Alabama State University, Chair and Co-Chair of the HBCU Library Alliance Digital Initiative Committee, presented "The HBCU Library Alliance Digital Initiative Project Update." The PowerPoint presentation is attached for your convenience and includes an overview of the Digital Initiative and the recent member survey.  As you recall, the HBCU Library Alliance Digital Collection http://hbcudigitallibrary.auctr.edu/ contains more than 16,000 images of founding documents from twenty-three participating institutions.  It is our treasure of early American history that must be preserved, protected and shared.

Eighty-two members received the survey on September 23 with sixty-four members responding, an impressive 78% response rate. Thanks to all members who completed the survey. The Digital Initiatives Committee will use responses for Board action to plot strategies and future directions of the initiative.

I shared during the Membership Meeting in my Executive Director's report that there is interest from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in the survey results and in NEH being a resource to support the Digital Initiative. The results will be shared with NEH when appropriate.

Moving Ahead
