Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating  Gordon Parks' film "The Learning Tree."  The film was selected among the first films to be registered by the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. The National Film Registry was formed by an act of Congress to recognize films that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Parks' 1969 movie joined other classic films such as "Casablanca," "Gone With the Wind," and "The Wizard of Oz."

Bylaws Revision

The HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors agreed to a revision to the 2011 Bylaws to be submitted to the membership for approval.

Requirements for Bylaws Changes

Amendments to the Bylaws must be approved by a two-thirds majority vote of eligible voting representatives before they can go into effect.  Each member in good standing shall be entitled to one vote.

In accordance with the HBCU Library Alliance Bylaws, Article VIII, Section A, please access the attached document to view the current Bylaws with "tracked" changes. Significant changes include the Vice-Chair assuming the role of the Chair when the Chair's term ends and Bylaws amendments approved with a two-thirds majority of those casting votes. These proposed changes strengthen the Board of Directors, particularly as the HBCU Library Alliance begins a focused sustainability strategy and improve the procedure for amending Bylaws.

On Monday, October 22nd, at the 5th Biennial Membership Meeting, members in good standing will receive a ballot and vote on the amended Bylaws. Those members in good standing not attending the Membership Meeting will be contacted directly for voting.
