Greetings Colleagues,

Theodosia Shields, Chair of the HBCU Library Alliance Nominating Committee, forwards this information regarding the upcoming Board Election.

Call for Nominations - HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors

  1. The HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors is the governing body of the HBCU Library Alliance and proposes policy for issues brought before the Board. The Board supports the goals of the Alliance and actively provides leadership. Board members serve a three-year term and may be elected to a second sequential term.

The HBCU Library Alliance Board is comprised of ten members representing the following institutions:

One (1) 1890's institution
Three (3) at-large institutions
Two (2) private institutions
Two (2) public institutions
One (1) two-year institution
Past Chair institution

  1. The Board meets at least three times each fiscal year, either face-to-face or by electronic format.

  2. A current Board list reflecting Board-approved extended terms for the Chair and Vice Chair, and an explanation of the extension, is attached to this e-mail.

Board Slots to be Filled

The HBCU Library Alliance Board is seeking nominations for the following two slots:

One (1) public institution - currently held by Adrienne Webber, South Carolina State University
One (1) at-large institution - currently held by Sheila Stuckey, Kentucky State University

The Nominating Committee and Process

I chair the Nominating Committee. Jean Greene, Hinds Community College (MS), and Joan Williams, Bennett College for Women (NC), will assist me with this process.

  1. Members who are in good financial standing (current dues-paying members) may self-nominate and suggest nominees.

To self-nominate, please forward an e-mail to me containing the following information:

  • A brief bio to include a listing of your Board and/or committee activities
  • A paragraph describing your interest in serving on the HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors

To suggest a nominee, please get that director's approval before submitting their name. Please provide their contact information and your brief statement indicating their interest in serving on the HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors.  The Nominating Committee will contact them for further discussion.

  1. Forward any suggested nominees to me at tshields@nccu.edumailto:tshields@nccu.edu no later than Friday, March 16th.

The Election Process

  1. The Nominating Committee will prepare a slate of new Board members.

  2. The election will be conducted electronically beginning on Monday, April 9th and ending on Friday, April 20th.  Current dues paying members will receive an e-ballot with instructions for voting. Newly elected Board members will be announced to the membership on Monday, April 23rd.
