REMINDER Election Process for HBCU Alliance Board of Directors

Greetings HBCU Library Alliance Members,

This is your REMINDER to submit nominations for the HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors.
March 26th is the cutoff date for nominations.

We need, and appreciate, your continued commitment to the HBCU Library Alliance.

Please read this message and the attachments.
It's time to conduct an election for the Board of Directors.  One of the benefits of membership in the HBCU Library Alliance is eligibility to stand for election and to vote for the Board of Directors.  Please note that the HBCU Library Alliance Board is a development as well as a governing board.  I am including with this message an attachment which outlines Board Member Responsibilities as well as an attachment listing current Board members and the dates their terms end.
This message includes the timeline for the nomination/election process and important dates.
Call for Nominations - HBCU Library Alliance Board

  1. The HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors is the governing body of the HBCU Library Alliance and proposes policy for issues brought before the Board. The Board supports the goals of the Alliance and actively provides leadership. Board members serve a three-year term and may be elected to a second sequential term.

The HBCU Library Alliance Board is comprised of ten members representing the following institutions:

One (1) 1890's institution
Three (3) at-large institutions
Two (2) private institutions
Two (2) public institutions
One (1) two-year institution
The Past Chair position
2.  The Board meets at least three times each fiscal year, either face-to-face or by electronic format.
3.  The Board list is attached to this communication.
4.  The Responsibilities of Board Member document is also attached to this communication.
Board Positions to be Filled
The HBCU Library Alliance Board is seeking nominations for the following six positions:

One (1) 1890's institution - currently held by Blanche Sanders, Alcorn University (MS)
Two (2) at-large institutions - currently held by Theodosia Shields, North Carolina Central University and Mary Jo Fayoyin, Savannah State University (GA)
One (1) private institution - currently held by Joan Williams, Bennett College (NC)
One (1) public institution - currently held by LaVerne McLaughlin, Albany State University (GA)

One (1) two-year institution - currently held by Jean Greene, Hinds Community College (MS)
The Nominating Committee and Process

I'm chairing the Nominating Committee. Joan Williams, Bennett College (NC) and Mary Jo Fayoyin, Savannah State University (GA) will provide assistance.
Members who are in good financial standing (current dues paying members) may self-nominate and suggest nominees.

To self-nominate, please forward an e-mail containing the following information:

  • A brief bio to include a listing of your Board and/or committee activities
  • A paragraph describing your interest in serving on the HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors

To suggest a nominee, please get that director's approval before submitting their name. Also share the Responsibilities of Board Member document with them. Provide their contact information and your brief statement indicating their interest in serving on the HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors.  The Nominating Committee will contact them for further discussion.

The Election Process

  1. The Nominating Committee will prepare a slate of new Board members.
  2. The election will be conducted electronically beginning on Monday, April 22nd  and ending on Friday, April 26th.  Current dues paying members will receive an e-ballot with instructions for voting.
  3. Newly elected Board members will be announced to the membership on Monday, April 29th.
